A Warm Afternoon with a Local Book Club
A Warm Afternoon with a Local Book Club
Last week, I had the privilege of being invited to a local book club. It was a real pleasure to meet the members, who made me feel very welcome from the moment I arrived. There was tea, coffee, and homemade cake too — delicious cake, I should add. Thank you, Maxine!
The meeting began with the group discussing their most recent book. They reviewed it in depth, shared their thoughts, and then gave it a star rating out of five. It was lovely to see such thoughtful discussion and enthusiasm for reading.
As part of the afternoon, Alicia, the organiser of the club, kindly invited me to introduce myself and talk a little about my books. I also read a couple of short passages, giving the group a flavour of my writing style and the themes behind my work.
I was very pleased by the warm response. It was an enormously enjoyable afternoon spent with wonderful people, and I was grateful that several members chose to purchase books in different formats after the presentation.
Meeting readers in this way is a lovely opportunity to talk about books, writing, and stories in person. It reminded me how valuable these local reading communities are, and I would be delighted to visit other book clubs or community groups in the local area in the future.
If your book club or community group would be interested in an informal author visit, reading, or discussion, please feel free to get in touch.
